When you think of Halo the first thing that comes to mind is probably a first-person shooter with great where you fight aliens. And while most of that is still true in this title, Halo Wars 2 is not a first-person shooter game, but a strategy title, just like its predecessor.

Developed by Bungie, when the first Halo it was an instant success. An amazing plot in an action-packed title quickly became an icon for the gaming world. And thanks to this success there have been a lot of spin-offs, and side story content.

After the success of the first Halo Wars launched in 2009 the title even received a remastered edition. But here we'll be talking about its sequel Halo Wars 2.

About the game

The story takes place 28 years after the events of the first title, about a year after the events of Halo 5: Guardians. This world is completely different from what we saw in the first Halo Wars, all these events and the war against The Covenant has created new enemies and threats to the UNSC.

We play as James Cutter, Captain of the UNSC Spirit of Fire. Soon after our whole crew sets on sale, our ship's AI awakes us near the establishment 00, the same Arc from Halo 3. Here's where the Forerunner fabricates Halo's, and it's also a place where humanity left many scientific installments abandoned. The mystery grows as we learn that these installments have been attacked by a dissident faction of the Covenant. New alliances, new enemies and even new mysteries to solve appear in Halo Wars 2.

A very un-Halo Halo?

Even though the game style is completely different from most Halo games, Halo Wars 2 maintains many of the elements that make any Halo game great. Not only is it full of action for a real-time strategy game, but it's also well written. The plot needs not to envy that of any numbered entry in the series.

In fact, it is actually one of the best narratives we've seen in any Halo game. Adding depth to the story and context to the whole conflict. Halo Wars 2 even introduces a new interesting villain called Atriox.

The characters are well-developed, and each mission has rich amounts of content to it, texts to expand the world and different ways to face them. It's also clear how the game resembles the Total War series developed by The Creative Assembly. And it should since they are both developed by the same company.
