Do you have an Escort radar detector that you need to update?
Several times a month Escort releases a new update to their Defender photo enforcement database and they also occasionally have updates to the firmware of their radar detectors, which you can download and install right from the comfort of your home.
To do this Escort has a program called Radar Detector tools and during this video I’m sharing here with you now, I’ll walk you through step by step on exactly how to obtain this program and do your updates.
The first step is to go to Escort’s website at EscortRadar.com and click on the link Product Registration.
Then select your product from the list and click on the corresponding link.
On the following page you will get this form where you will need to enter your name and register your detector.
Then on the following page you will need to agree to Escort’s terms of services by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.
And then this following page there are instructions on how to use the program and this green box you click on to download the Windows version.
Now if you have a Mac, like I do, you will need to scroll all the way down and click on the link for the detector you own, in this video I have the Passport Max, which I’ll be updating.
A window will then pop open asking you if you want to open or save the program, in this case I’ll be opening the program.
Now just follow the prompts and the location where you want to install the program.
Now before we plug in our detector we want to make sure that we have the latest version of the program installed with the correct drivers.
So after launching the program, click on the Menu Escort Detector Tools and then drivers.
Then follow the instructions on the install.

Next I recommend checking for application Updates to make sure you have the latest program.
Now connect your radar detector to your computer using an A/B USB cable and Radar Detector tools will begin authenticating your detector and your serial number should then appear in this green box.
Now lets just do a quick run down on the menu options, first under the Escort Detector Tools menu we have About, Escort’s License agreement, Drivers, application updates and quit detector tools.
Next under manual updates we have an option to only update your Defender database or just the Firmware.
Then under advanced options we have Save Locations which enables you to store any marked locations you have saved on your detector and then restore which enables you to restore any saved locations.
I always recommend saving your locations before doing any updates, just incase of a problem.
Escort Redline Radar Detector Software
So we will do this first by clicking on the menu advanced options, save locations and selecting a folder on your computer where you will save the data.
Depending on how many saved locations you have, this can take about a minute or two and when it’s finished a banner like this will appear.
Next lets begin the process of updating our Firmware and Defender database by clicking on the green circle with the arrow.
This process takes a few minutes depending on your Internet speed and first downloads the firmware updates and once successful erases your old firmware and reinstalls the new firmware to your radar detector.
Then the next process if applicable would begin the process of updating your Defender database.
When the entire process is completed you’ll get a banner just like this one saying that your updates were successful.
Exit your detector tools program, unplug your detector and you’re radar detector will have the newest firmware updates and photo enforcement updates.

Escort Radar Detector Software
If a further firmware upgrade is offered sometime in the future, you can either send it in to Escort, or if you own an Escort Live SmartCord, you can upload the firmware to the cord using Detector Tools and then it will update the firmware in the RedLine.
I'd like to expand on the previous comment that 'Laser doesn't really matter'. For best Laser detection, your RL should be mounted low, and for best Radar detection, it should be mounted high. This is because LEOs using Laser are aiming them at your headlamps or license plate. I take the previous poster's comment to mean that if you get a laser alert, and you aren't using any other Laser counter-measures, then the LEOs already have your speed, and the alert doesn't amount to much more than to let you know that you're toast.
To counter Laser, you'll need to install Laser shifters/jammers, and perhaps a apply a coating of Laser Veil on your headlamps and license plate.
Good luck
